Play TherepyContact Lawrence on 027 555 2450 CHILD CENTRED PLAY THERAPY Play is a child’s natural way of expression. This can lead to the child’s development of self-confidence. Children speak by their behaviour and actions (good, as well as less desirable behaviour) but are less aware what is happening inside themselves. In Play Therapy, as a safe therapeutic environment is created, a child is able to explore their inner emotions. As a child plays through their issues and feelings the child will develop a greater sense of self, have a calmer way of being, and be more resourceful and creative. A Child Centred Play Therapy session is usually 30 to 45 minutes. 16 sessions is recommended to adequately complete the CCPT stages in the play therapy process. The care givers meet with me first (without the child) as we gain an understanding of the goals of therapy and the background to the issues. I then meet the caregivers after every 4 sessions so we can evaluate how things are going and work together for progress. What can a Care-giver say to their child going to CCPT? “Things are not going so well for you; this will be a special time just for you. It is a place you can play freely and will not be asked any questions” Parents rights To ask about progress of your child (actual content will not be disclosed but how they are progressing ) Help in responding to child at home What to expect in the differant stages of therepy To be respected and valued as the primary caregiver. Therapeutic principles CCPT is child focused and believes in the innate ability of a child to play through stuff at the pace and style that they need. To create a safe therapeutic environment for the child, the therapist will be; real and genuine; warm, caring and accepting, with Sensitive Understanding. |
